Greek Vegetarian Recipes

Greek recipes share many of the same characteristics and ingredients with Italian, Turkish, and other neighboring Mediterranean cuisines, relying heavily on olives, cheeses, fresh vegetables, and yogurt. Main seasonings include olive oils, honey, lemon, oregano, mint, and garlic. Unusually, Greeks also favor the use of cinnamon, cloves, and fennel in savory dishes.

One of the oldest and most influential cuisines in the world, Greece has had a culinary impact on the entire Western world, preceding Roman cuisine and producing the world's first cookbook, written by Archestratos in 320 B.C. Greece has also gained much influence from its neighbors over the centuries, with popular dishes such as tzatziki and moussaka originating from nearby lands like Arabia and Persia.
