Braised Red Cabbage

Ingredients:
1 head red cabbage, thinly sliced
1 large onion, thinly sliced
1 TB butter
2 apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup red wine vinegar
2 TB red wine (optional)
2 TB brown sugar
2 TB honey
Small pinches of ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Heat butter in a pan over medium heat and saute cabbage and onions until limp. Add apples, vinegar, sugar, honey, wine, and spices. Continue to cook over medium-low heat, covered, until cabbage is completely tender, about 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve.
