Sambal Kacang



Translation: Peanut Sauce

This popular Indonesian peanut sauce is served with favorites such as gado gado and satay.

Ingredients:

1 TB vegetable oil
2 shallots, minced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 TB brown sugar
1 tsp ground red chili powder
1/2 tsp turmeric, ground
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 TB tamarind water
1 TB soy sauce
Water, as needed

Directions:

Heat oil over medium heat in a pan and saute garlic and shallots until translucent, about 2 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and stir to combine. Add water to reach desired consistency.
